PERSONAL GROWTH & SELF EMPOWERMENT
LONG ISLAND HYPNOTHERAPY: My goal as a hypnotherapist is to help people get unstuck so that they can reach their full potential. Hypnotherapy is a great tool for abolishing irrational fears and limiting beliefs that people sometimes adopt along the way. It’s also great for kicking bad habits and reinforcing healthier choices.
Do you want assistance that will contribute to your peak cognitive and physical performance, academic and employment success, better communication and relationships and offer multiple benefits and long lasting results?
What Is Hypnosis? While definitions can vary, the American Psychological Association (APA) describes hypnosis as a cooperative (collaborative) interaction in which the participant responds to the suggestions of the hypnotist. While hypnosis has become well-known thanks to popular acts where people are prompted to perform unusual or ridiculous actions, the technique has also been clinically proven to provide medical and therapeutic benefits, most notably in the reduction of pain and anxiety.
Hypnosis (also referred to as hypnotherapy) is an altered state of consciousness. This state of consciousness is usually achieved with the help of a hypnotherapist, your guide. When you are under hypnosis you do not sleep; instead your unconscious mind is alert and receptive to positive suggestions. The intention is to bypass your conscious mind which often sabotages your ability to achieve goals through incessant negative self talk. During hypnosis, you are aware of everything being said and are always in control.
Hypnosis is also an education and communication process that allows your own inner intelligence to help you make the changes you desire. Your own decision to participate in the collaboration (partnership) is crucial. The key to someone being able to be hypnotized is their willingness. It is commonly thought that those individuals with ‘a strong will’ cannot be hypnotized. It has been shown that intelligent people can be hypnotized faster because they have greater access to their imagination, are creative and can follow instructions. In fact, those with an extremely low IQ (intelligence quotient) cannot be hypnotized at all. Another key ingredient to the success of your hypnotherapy session is your trust in your therapist. The hypnotherapist assists you in carrying out the work during each session.
Most people find hypnosis to be a pleasant, enjoyable and successful experience that results in positive change and leads to self-empowerment:

*Your attention is sharply focused
*You are more responsive to suggestions
*You are in a deep state of relaxation
As a therapeutic technique, clinical hypnotherapy can assist you in gaining more control over your behavior, emotions and physical well-being. SOME MYTHS REGARDING HYPNOSIS:
*Hypnosis is sleep *Loss of consciousness *Surrendering of will *Loss of control *Truth Serum *Gullibility~weak mindedness *Fear of not being able to emerge from the trance
Many people fear that being hypnotized will make them lose control and surrender their will, which will result in their being dominated by another person. Often these assumptions about hypnotism are based on stage acts where they have seen people do some very unusual things but don’t take into account that stage hypnotists screen their volunteers very well to carefully select only those individuals who will be cooperative, highly suggestible and who often possess possible exhibitionist tendencies. Think of the people you have known to be the “class clowns” for instance. Stage acts help create a myth about hypnosis which discourages people from seeking legitimate hypnotherapy. Remember, these “performers” design their shows for entertainment purposes.
Once these misconceptions are put to rest and the myths are dispelled, more and more people will enhance their lives by allowing themselves to experience the wonderful benefits of hypnotherapy.
Hypnosis Is Not Mind Control. Hypnosis cannot be used to control someone else’s mind, or their actions. A hypnotherapist cannot make you do anything that is in conflict with your moral or ethical beliefs. You can emerge from a hypnotic state at any time. By using hypnosis, people gain greater control over their own minds and their own actions. Hypnosis is not a state of deep sleep, but one of altered consciousness. The goal is to sudbue the conscious mind which is engaged in negative self chatter all day long and thus allowing the subconscious mind to become alert and act like a sponge to absorb all the positive suggestions the trained hypnotherapist is saying to you. Hypnosis is a method of achieving a relaxed state of heightened focus and concentration (like during meditation). The hypnotherapist is the facilitator; You are in the driver’s seat during the session. If a suggestion becomes outdated or is no longer in line with your highest good, it will automatically self terminate. You will only retain suggestions you agree with.
Hypnosis is not a truth serum and you cannot be made to confess any secrets. You are always in control and you can choose what you want to disclose. You won’t do anything in a hypnotic state that you would not find acceptable in your normal awake state. Hypnotized individuals are perfectly capable of saying no or terminating a hypnosis session if they so desire.
Hypnosis has been widely used throughout the ages dating as far back as 3000 years ago to the Holistic Healing Centers called “Sleep Temples” of Egypt and Greece where various healing techniques, including hypnosis, were used. Hypnosis is a naturally occurring state; it is the communication between the conscious and the subconscious mind. Your subconscious mind is naturally intelligent, and hypnosis is a safe way of accessing this natural intelligence and making those positive, seemingly miraculous changes in you, your body, and your behavior.
Hypnosis helps change attitudes, which is the key to changing behavior. With hypnosis, a person is empowered, and made independent enough to solve his/her own problems. With hypnosis a person can change behaviors that would otherwise seem difficult, if not impossible, to change.
Hypnotherapy has the potential to help relieve the symptoms of a wide variety of diseases and conditions. It can be used independently or in conjunction with other treatments, and is one of several relaxation methods approved for treating chronic pain.
Can Hypnosis Work for YOU? Hypnosis is a wonderful tool, which everyone can use. We all experience hypnosis every day. It’s true, we do!
The best hypnosis occurs when we are relaxed and the conscious mind is less active; while daydreaming for example or while performing routine tasks such as watching television or listening to music, even while driving (*driving requires your full attention, therefore do not use hypnosis cds while in your car), and during many activities where your conscious mind is free and your subconscious is performing the task. This light daydreamy state is called the alpha state. Alpha is a light trance-like state that many individuals experience throughout the day without even realizing it. It is often described as being on auto-pilot. During the Alpha state individuals are 200 times more influenced by suggestions. Every culture has used hypnosis in one form or another over hundreds of years, and now we are rediscovering the wonderful benefits that hypnosis can offer. Why not you?
If you have ever driven and it seemed as if the car knew on its own how to get you to your destination? Then you have experienced hypnosis. Or you may find that miles and time seem to evaporate, and suddenly you’re at your destination. Then you have experienced hypnosis. Have you ever been so focused and involved on a movie or a television program or immersed in reading a book or playing a video game and you became so removed or detached from your surroundings that you didn’t hear someone calling your name? Then you have experienced hypnosis. Have you ever been so deep in thought that it felt like it was real? Have you ever gotten so wrapped up in a project at work, and suddenly realized that it’s way past 5PM?
Or have you ever daydreamed? Of course, we all do things like this on a daily basis. This is what it is like being hypnotized. When in hypnosis, you can hear everything around you and most times people say, “I don’t think I was hypnotized.” When asked why, the reply is usually, “Because I heard everything you said.” This is just one of the many misconceptions of hypnosis. You will remember nearly, if not all that transpired during your session! Remember, you are in the driver’s seat, the hypnotherapist is merely the guide.

If you are experiencing a chronic condition or issue, one session may not be enough to eliminate a habit that took years to develop. However, we do not rule that out, it can happen! Each individual is different and unique. Usually, several sessions are recommended for most people. The initial session can last for one and a half to two hours and includes a discussion of the client’s goals and objectives, resolution of any misconceptions about hypnosis and the initial hypnosis session. Follow up sessions can take up to an hour.
Hypnosis cannot, and should not, stand alone as the sole medical or psychological intervention for any disorder. Hypnosis should not be used instead of appropriate medical, dental, or psychological treatment, but rather as an effective adjunct to traditional medical treatments. Any individual with a medical or psychological problem should first consult a qualified health care provider for diagnosis and professional advice.
Almost anyone can be taught to induce others into a state of hypnosis. Many how-to books are published that teach just that. But, for hypnosis to be effective, it needs to be experienced in the hands of a skilled hypnotherapist. This skill demands extensive training. There are no shortcuts. Hypnosis should only be practiced by those who have been appropriately trained, who practice appropriately and within the scope of their training.

for use by professionally responsible individuals
You can write Hypnosis for smoking cessation off on your Federal income taxes as a “medical expense”.*
In fact, the IRS is specific that over the counter nicotine therapy products are not deductible, but hypnotherapy services are. Here’s the link to the IRS site regarding the tax deduction: http://www.irs.gov/publications/p502/ar02.html#d0e2004
